Mayte Lara
Mayte Lara serves as the Manager of Language Assistance Services for Fulton County Schools and is a founding leader within the Georgia Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (GALAS). With 18 years of experience in education, Mayte is a dedicated advocate for family and community engagement, multilingual learners, positive school culture, mental health and wellness, and ensuring that every family has access to the information and support they need to help students succeed.
Originally from Mexico, Mayte earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), graduating Magna Cum Laude. Prior to her career in education, she served as Director of Analysis and Promotion for the Secretariat of Commerce in the State of Guanajuato, where she developed a strong foundation in leadership, communication, and public service.
Since joining Fulton County Schools, Mayte has dedicated more than 16 years to supporting multilingual families and students. She began her educational career as a Bilingual Community Liaison, later serving as a Parent Liaison Specialist II, and now leads the district’s Language Assistance Services program. Along the way, she earned professional certifications as both an Educational Interpreter and a Special Education Interpreter, strengthening her ability to advocate for equitable communication and access for all families.
Mayte is particularly proud of her leadership of the Bilingual Community Liaison team and her contributions to Fulton County Schools’ Parent Academy, initiatives that have empowered families and strengthened connections between schools and the communities they serve. Beyond her professional role, she actively gives back through organizations including the One Johns Creek Coalition and the Community Assistance Center.
Fluent in Spanish and proficient in French, Mayte brings a global perspective and a passion for service to everything she does. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, cooking, knitting, cheering for soccer, spending time with her family, and spoiling her beloved dogs. Through her work with GALAS, she remains committed to uplifting Latino leaders, supporting multilingual communities, and creating opportunities for future generations across Georgia.
