Alex Borges

Alex Borges serves as a Federal Programs Specialist with Gwinnett County Public Schools and as the Publisher/Historian for the Georgia Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (GALAS). With 17 years of experience in education, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement, Alex is passionate about advancing student achievement, Latino student success, family and community engagement, and equitable opportunities for all learners.

A proud Puerto Rican and first-generation college graduate, Alex has dedicated his career to building bridges between schools, families, and communities. His work has spanned educational leadership, family engagement, migrant education, community outreach, and federal programs, always with a focus on ensuring that students and families have the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Alex currently supports Title I schools across Gwinnett County Public Schools, where he works alongside school leaders to strengthen family engagement practices, improve student outcomes, and ensure equitable access to educational opportunities. Beyond his professional role, he is actively involved in community and leadership organizations, serving as Publisher/Historian for GALAS, Chair of Outreach for the University of Georgia Latino Alumni Council, and President-Elect of the Duluth-Norcross Kiwanis Club. He is also a member of the Atlanta chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA).

Throughout his career, Alex has been recognized for his commitment to innovation, leadership, and community impact. His honors include being named Terry Alumnus of the Day by the University of Georgia Terry College of Business, receiving First Place for Community Impact through UGA’s Leadership Dawgs program, earning the Innovation in Family Engagement Award, the Howard B. Stroud Community Service Award from the Foundation for Excellence in Public Education, and being recognized as one of Athens’ Gamechangers: Top 10 Under 40.

Alex’s educational journey has taken him from the University of Puerto Rico to studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in French from Shorter University and a Master in Business and Technology from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. He has also completed leadership microcredentials through the Institute for Educational Leadership, focused on supporting immigrant and refugee youth through community-connected and culturally responsive practices.

When he’s not working with schools and community organizations, Alex enjoys traveling, learning languages, studying Japanese, exploring new technologies, watching movies, and spending time with his dogs. A lifelong learner with a passion for service, he remains committed to developing future Latino leaders and creating stronger, more connected communities across Georgia.
